Trainspiration – Bedford Park Bound B Train

The last stop on this train but the first one in my life;
The first of many trips both to and from was on a cold
night in 1990, I came home, a newborn to Marion Ave.
My first memories were the last few boxes in 1993,
loading onto a truck headed a short way away, still
farther than 3 year old me can see.
I learned to write the word “goodbye” after we left,
but little did I know it was only the beginning;
A life between 2 neighborhoods, a zigzag route the 41
bus away, a bridge between pickup football games on
the vessels of my dirty sneakers.
9 years of schooling, making best friends and foolish
memories,
Running around from 205th to Fordham, I would pass
by the old building on Marion Ave and wonder how it
would have been to live there, still.
One thing I’ve learned is that home is a feeling, not just
a place and for that I don’t have to travel far;
Cause even though Wakefield will always be my
‘house,’ Bedford Park is my backyard.
