Neighborhoods, Not ‘Sections’

“Neighborhoods, Not ‘Sections'”
by Ruben Muñiz

We don’t live in the mothafuckin’ Tupperware aisle,

Yet our communities are boxed in, sealed, and closed
off by the media, from any other idea,
that doesn’t perpetuate The Bronx as a place to fear.

Turn on the local news, whenever you want in NYC, doesn’t matter what channel, pay attention, and you’ll see,

Every community in The Bronx is referred to as a ‘section,’ and still most places in Brooklyn, too,

But in Queens, Jersey, Manhattan, the Island of Staten, they’re called ‘neighborhoods’. That may not bother you,

But this is switch up of terms, so deliberate,
it shouldn’t be ignored, as subtle as it is,
it’s dehumanizing, inconsiderate;

Know that the BX and BK are far from illiterate, if you called our ‘sections’ neighborhoods, it would help, just a little bit.
