A Progressive Shift Towards the Future
Well, she did it folks. Alessandra Biaggi unseated longtime Democratic State Senator Jeff Klein in the 34th District. Biaggi’s win was only one of several “blue wave” Democratic wins expected to continue to shift liberal momentum in the Democrats’ favor going into the midterm elections.
Alongside Biaggi, Julia Salazar, a Brooklyn Democratic Socialist, also won her bid for state senate. This realignment of party politics indicates that President Trump’s agenda and rhetoric are not going over well with New Yorkers. Instead, he has helped double primary voter turnout since 2014’s dismal turnout numbers.
With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Julia Salazar, and Alessandra Biaggi poised to win their general election races in November, only one question remains. What will the establishment political machines do now?

What Herbert Norat loves most about the Bronx is the diverse group of people that call our beautiful borough home. You can drive from a pub on City Island to a Jamaican restaurant in Gun Hill and shoot over to Little Italy for gelato. It’s all here.
