What part of the Bronx are you from?
C.S: Im from the Soundview Section of the South Bronx, born and raised.
How has living in the Bronx inspired or influenced your work?
C.S: I’m from the heart of it. I grew up going to block parties, cookouts and things like that, before indictments and gang injunctions bought an end to all of the culture in The Bronx. I would see rappers like Drag-On, DMX,Corey Gunz, Jadakiss and Pun coming through all the time. On top of that my Mother was a rapper By the name of ‘Lil Sha-Rock’ who came up under another female rapper who’s name was Sha-Rock(The Original Sha-Rock whom my mom had looked up to). It has always been around me.
What’s your creative process?
CS: I write at night most of the time. At the night I believe is when the spirit is at rest and in balance. Also at night is when all the drama also goes down from my window, shootouts, ambulances rushing to Soundview Projects and Stevenson Commons (the latter in which i’m actually from) this energy is the fuel to my music and it all goes down in the evening. lol
What ideas, if any, do you want to inspire with your art?
CS: My goal – blend Street Rap Culture with Pop culture. I want to bring all of these mainstream outlets to The Bronx and shed light on where we have been, and why we have been silent for so long. I want people from all across the world to feel like they are in the passenger’s seat of my life, experiencing the Bronx and life in general as I do; how we talk, dress, party, rap, things like that. Last but not least to let the whole entire planet know that we started Hip-Hop and its coming back home.
Any plans/dreams in the works you could give a little preview of?
C.S: I’m working on a Project which is “Untitled” at the moment, should be ready by summer. It’s a project for the Bronx. If you want to hear my work, you can search google or youtube “Carl Sherron”.
