Hurricane Maria: How Bronxites and New York City Residents Can Help

It has been two weeks since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico and the surrounding Caribbean islands. As of today, 95% of Puerto Rico is still left without power, and very well could be without it for up to six months. The death toll is also slowly rising, climbing up to 34 just this past Tuesday.

With such a large Puerto Rican population in New York City, there is no doubt that we have also been feeling the devastation and anguish that our family members are facing on the island right now. How can us New Yorkers help?

Here is a list of supplies you can donate, and where you can drop them off in the Bronx:

Just this past weekend, my brother and uncles flew out to Loiza, (our family’s hometown), Puerto Rico with 5 generators and 9 boxes of supplies. Their mission trip was successful in aiding our small town, which was devastated by the hurricane. My uncles and brothers have set up another GoFundMe page to raise money for another mission trip to bring more supplies, if you are interested in donating:

Rebuilding Puerto Rico is not going to happen overnight. However, every single donation counts. Puerto Rico is facing a huge humanitarian crisis. Let’s help out our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters.
