Bronxscapes: Week 3

The Bronx is beautiful. From the people to it’s architecture, to the beautiful parks and the murals and graffitied walls there’s just no place like The Bronx. We’re inspired by our home each and everyday and each week we’ll be sharing some of the photos that capture the beauty of our home and inspire us. Be sure to check in each week for the next round of photos and to follow and support the creatives that take these amazing shots.

Looking at these three photos, if I had to pick a theme it would be orange and red bursts of color. The warm colors in the composition of these three photos really make them stand out.

This first photo was taken by Jay Winchester, @jwnchstr on Instagram. This photo is great because of its use of focus. As you look from the top of the picture, you begin to see some tree tops. The cloudy sky also begins to come into view. As your eyes move toward the center of the photo, you see a metal backboard. To the right of the backboard, you can faintly see a building in the background. As you look down you see the vines along the chain link fence. The leaf filled basketball court comes into focus as the picture becomes more clear the further down you look. The classic clay and blue court is muted but lovely. The NYC Parks logo, the unofficial symbol of summer fun, comes into view.

This next photo was taken by @burnourdough on Instagram. I love this photo because of the absolute explosion of color from this piece by legendary TatsCRU graffiti writer BG183. But before we break down this incredible piece, I’ve always loved the stuccoed rear of buildings in The Bronx. You can see what looks to be the top of an SUV and a garage in the center of this photo. Now, the orange on this piece just pops. I love BG’s signature fire hydrant to the left of the photo, the teal green is a nice contrast. I love how the inside of the letters for Hunts Point looks like a partly cloudy sky. I also love how the silhouettes of the buildings flank the text. I also love how realistic this painting of this young woman is to the right of the piece.

This last photo was taken by me. I love how this photo glows. The neon lights in this pizza spot really make this image pop. The mirror on the left makes it seem as if there’s another room and window on the other side of this wall. The statue of the pizza chef is just something you don’t see everyday, and I love how its reflection in the window is illuminated in red. The neon glow at the bottom right corner of the photo looks like a red lightsaber. Thanks Bari for letting me take this photo of you.

Check in next week for another Bronxscapes series.
