Andrew Peña collaboration with The Bronx Brand
The Bronx Brand strives to showcase Bronx creativity and supports local Bronx artists through collaborations on apparel, accessories, and prints. Through these collaborations, artists earn a commission from each sale with no upfront costs or manufacturing expenses. By removing the logistics and assuming the responsibility of producing quality products for consumers, makers and creatives can focus on creating and innovating.
The Bronx Brand recently collaborated with illustrator and designer Andrew Peña.
How has living in the Bronx inspired or influenced your work?
Born and raised in Mount Eden, I’ve been drawing since I was a kid and take inspiration from different life experiences. My work consists of everyday struggles, relatable stories, and the lessons that come with growing up somewhere like the Bronx.
What’s your creative process?
I don’t have a formula that I follow for my creative process, but it usually begins with a sketch in my notebook. Sometimes a drawing turns into a short story or a funny comic. There are also sketches that’ll never see the light of day but I think it’s important to get all of those onto paper until you find something you’re happy with.
What ideas, if any, do you want to inspire with your art?
I hope I can inspire younger artists to pursue a career in illustration and design. Growing up I didn’t have any resources other than a few art classes in school so I’d love to be that source or guide for someone else.
