Shoutout Sunday: Nara Tiang

Sunday Shoutout is our new series profiling a creative we admire and have worked with.  We want to showcase the vibrant talent we have been fortunate to work and partner with, in all mediums.  Everyone from artists and designers, musicians and rappers, writers to photographers, we want to introduce you to new creatives in The Bronx.  This week meet Bronx artist, illustrator, and creative Nara Tiang.

Nara Tiang

Nara Tiang is a Cambodian-American artist, entrepreneur, and creative.

Nara Tiang is a Cambodian-American artist, entrepreneur, and creative from The Bronx. Growing up on 183rd and Webster, Nara is heavily influenced by his Bronx roots and brings the diversity and vibrancy of The Bronx into his pieces.  He works with a wide range of mediums including acrylics, markers, pens, pencils, just to name a few, and has a wide collection of print art, clothing, and commission work.

How has The Bronx inspired Nara’s work?

“The arts was a tool to keep me occupied and my mind focused away from all of that, it was my personal drug. I also love when i see artists work being promoted on subway train stations. The Bronx has a vibrant culture that influenced my taste in both visual arts as well as music.  When I’m not drawing I also like to jam out with my guitar and cajon(box drum).”

What is his creative process?

“It varies. Also depends on what I’ve recently been exposed to, or whatever’s weighing in my heart. I heard someone say once that making art is like waiting for a nice breeze. I feel like that sometimes. Some days I’ll create a masterpiece and I think to myself “how did I just do that??” I think it came with the wind.”

As an artist familiar with mixed mediums, Nara also works on denim jackets, shows, toys, anything!  He currently has an online store where you can purchase his jackets and he’s accepting commissions. And, he even painted a dinosaur model!

He also accepts commissions for portrait work.

Nara x The Bronx Brand

In 2017, The Bronx Brand collaborated with Nara and welcomed him onto the platform.  He currently has several prints for sale, all hand drawn by Nara, and available in rich color. Through every purchase of one of his prints, Nara earns a royalty, continuing The Bronx Brand’s mission of supporting living artists.
