Everyone from artists and designers, musicians and rappers, writers to photographers, we want to introduce you to new creatives in The Bronx. This week meet Bronx photographer, Gloria Zapata.
Gloria Zapata
Gloria Zapata is a Bronx freelance photographer, muralist, and creative.
Gloria Zapata (Instagram: @gzfotografias) is a Bronx freelance photographer, documentarian, muralist, and creative from the South Bronx. Growing up in Mill Brook Housing, Gloria has been inspired by The Bronx to share her artwork with the youth and community. A graduate of BMCC, Gloria originally pursued a career in film production and direction, even directing an award-winning short film, A Mirror of Me. Although her passion for film did not pan out as planned, she gravitated towards photography in her late 20s. Soon she was photographing Bronx murals and art, documenting scenes from her native Honduras, and honing her craft. As a Blacktina woman, she would like to inspire others in The Bronx and LGBTQ community, through her creativity, stories, and art.
In 2019, Gloria exhibited her own show, Memorias en Arte, at WallworksNY. Memorias en Arte was a collection of photos of her home country, Honduras, side-by-side with renderings by other artists.
What inspires Gloria and what is her creative process?
Living in the Bronx has inspired Gloria to use her artwork to share with the Youth and the community. Gloria’s creative process is in photography of people, artists, models, dancers, murals and painting / spray painting canvas.
Gloria Zapata x The Bronx Brand
The Bronx Brand welcomed Gloria onto the platform in 2019 with two pieces: Palermo Bus and Heart. Palermo Bus is an image of her native country, Honduras, and was part of her 2019 exhibit at WallWorksNY Gallery. Her signature black-and-white style with a splash of color carries through into these two designs.
