Shoutout Sunday: Luis Perez

Sunday Shoutout is our new series profiling a creative we admire and have worked with.  We want to showcase the vibrant talent we have been fortunate to work and partner with, in all mediums.  Everyone from artists and designers, musicians and rappers, writers to photographers, we want to introduce you to new creatives in The Bronx.  This week meet Bronx educator, activist, and artist Luis Perez.

Luis Perez

Luis Perez is an illustrator, graphic designer, animator and character designer from Soundview in The Bronx.

Luis Perez is an animator, graphic designer, illustrator, and character designer from the Soundview neighborhood. Luis graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in 2D animation and freelances as a character animator. He draws his creative inspiration from The Bronx, “the smells good or bad, the food, the music on every corner, the bold colorful graffiti and murals,” which all inspire and direct his work.

Luis creates expressive characters and shares his detailed process and drawings on his page, allowing you to follow along with the character’s development.

He freelances and is available to work on animation projects. Check out his animation reel:

“The abundance of unique characters everywhere were some of the main reasons why I found a love for art and storytelling”
– Luis, reflecting on The Bronx

Luis Perez x The Bronx Brand

In 2018 The Bronx Brand connected with Luis and began selling designs that embodied Bronx culture.  The first was The Bronx Breakfast: the baconeggncheese  on a roll with an Arizona, a Bronx staple. It’s found at every bodega, corner spot, and has held everyone over on early mornings.  This was followed by the Metrocard Delays Every Day sweatshirt and Saved by The Bronx t-shirt.
